sea wall/canvas
venice biennale 2019

seawall/canvas 45minutes

in this film a canvas painted with seaweed juice and pigment is tied to the seawall in rottingdean sussex

the canvas was in the sea for 45 minutes before the tide began to tear the canvas making it vulnerable to being taken out to sea

it was then removed

this action is held as an experience in this work which pushes the limits of how we define painting and encourages us to consider time and vulnerability of materials in the environment

the piece was selected to be shown in a large sequence of films, 'Alive in the Universe', at palazzo pesaro papafava, venice beinnale 2019
